Tips for Quick Healing Following Getting Stitches Removed from Oral SurgeryOnce you have had oral surgery, and you are getting your stitches removed, what are some steps you need to take to promote healing after your surgery? We have some information to help you recover from oral surgery as quickly as possible.

What Are Some Examples of Oral Surgery?

There are lots of examples of oral surgery that people get every day. For example, many people have to have their wisdom teeth removed, which is an oral surgery. There are also people who need to have root canals done to repair damage from tooth decay. If you have gum disease, there are also surgeries to replace missing bone and gum tissue that require stitches.

Caring for Your Mouth After Surgery

Once you have the surgery, and you are waiting for your stitches to be removed, or to dissolve, there are things you can do. Be sure that you are taking it easy on your mouth until the stitches heal. That means eating softer foods until your mouth is fully healed. You may want to opt for foods that are not too hot or too cold. Be sure that you have taken all of your antibiotics while your mouth is healing.

One of the most important things you can do to help your mouth after your stitches are removed is to keep your mouth clean, because this helps promote healing. Don't use mouthwashes with alcohol in them. Instead, rinse your mouth with warm saltwater after every meal or snack. This will help you keep your mouth clean and keep bacteria levels low.

You can also begin to brush your teeth gently with a very soft toothbrush. Be sure that you brush as gently as possible, so you don't irritate the tissues. You may want to use a water flosser or an electric toothbrush with a gentle setting. Continue to take gentle care of your teeth until your mouth fully heals.
