Oral Surgery
Simi Valley, CA

The words oral surgery make some people uneasy. However, most oral surgery procedures are widely accepted and are used to treat a wide variety of dental complications successfully. We can complete many of these procedures on an outpatient basis, allowing our patients to return to their daily routines and careers after a few days. What follows are some examples of the most common oral surgery procedures.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

It is common for wisdom teeth to erupt incompletely or become misaligned. As time goes on, these impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain and misalignment of adjacent teeth. Food can also get stuck around the wisdom teeth, leading to tooth decay and gum disease. In such cases, we will need to extract the wisdom teeth.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder where one stops breathing temporarily and frequently during sleep. Nonsurgical treatments are available, such as mouth guards and machines that regulate breathing, but surgery is also possible. By removing excess tissue from the back of the throat, we can clear the airway and dramatically reduce symptoms.

Reconstructive and Jaw Surgery

Maxillofacial surgery can fix misaligned jaws and treat injuries that need surgical procedures. Reconstructive and jaw surgery allows patients to chew food normally, relieve pain, and improve their appearance.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are used to replace lost teeth. This procedure involves inserting titanium posts into the tooth sockets and giving them time to heal. After the healing period, prosthetic crowns are attached to the posts to form permanent replacements that have the form and function of natural teeth.

Oral Surgery Procedures

We will first schedule a consultation in which we’ll determine whether oral surgery is the best option for you. If you are scheduled for oral surgery, a specialist at Westlake Oral and Plastic Surgery at Simi Valley will inform you regarding what to do before the procedure, medications you may need, and other arrangements following the surgery.

If you require general anesthesia, you may need to abstain from food and beverages beginning the night before the surgery. If that is the case, we will likely schedule your surgery early the next morning to minimize the discomfort from thirst and hunger. You may also need to have a relative or friend come with you to our office or pick you up after the procedure, as the effects of the anesthesia may render you unable to drive.
